Trey Smagur



Performance Year: 2017, 2022

Trey Smagur is a young tenor hailing from Clarkesville, Georgia. In 2015 he received an encouragement award at the Southeastern Regional Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions. That summer, Trey was an apprentice artist at the Des Moines Metro Opera Company. He returned there the following summer as an apprentice artist, covering the role of Des Grieux in Massenet’s Manon. He has studied vocal performance with Carlos Montane at the Jacobs School of Music in pursuit of a performer’s diploma; there, he was awarded the Georgina Joshi Graduate Fellowship for the 2015–16 academic year. Trey has performed numerous times at IU, including lead roles in the mainstage theater productions of Carmen (Don José), Magic Flute (Tamino), and H.M.S. Pinafore (Ralph Rackstraw).
