Tucson Desert Song Festival Announces 10th Anniversary Season
Susan Graham, Ailyn Pérez, Sasha Cooke, Susanna Phillips, Nicole Cabell, Vanessa Vasquez, Diane Reeves and Ann Hampton Callaway headline a star-studded roster of major artists
Dedicated to the memory of co-founder Jack Forsythe and celebrating its 10th anniversary, the 2022 Festival, “Women of Song,” features 43 events with 11 performing arts partners at multiple venues, kicking off in January in warm, sunny Tucson, Arizona.
“The festival’s mission is to develop Tucson’s profile as a major winter cultural destination, partnering with Tucson’s wonderful performing arts ensembles,” said Festival Coordinator George Hanson. “This year’s stars may be our biggest yet, focusing the attention of the vocal world on our pueblo.”
Mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke will present the world premiere of renowned composer Jennifer Higdon’s song cycle Summer Music in recital as part of TDSF’s Wesley Green Composer Project commissioning series. “When I heard Sasha sing, my heart responded with a feeling much like that incredible contentment one feels on a summer’s eve,” said Higdon. “It is a composer’s joy to be inspired by the beautiful tone and exquisite artistry of such an artist.”
TDSF Board President Jeannette Segel added: “The Festival’s late co-founder Jack Forsythe would have been thrilled to welcome such world-renowned female artists to celebrate the festival’s 10th anniversary. Many of these artists were long at the top of his wish list.“
