DESCRIPTION:Distinguished soloists soprano Brenda Rae and baritone Edward Vogel join the TSO and Chorus for a special presentation of Brahm’s Requiem. For years\, Brahms struggled to compose due to extreme self-doubt and insecurity. Inspired by the profound grief he felt by the death of his mother and his mentor Robert Schumann\, he completed the grand\, seven-movement masterpiece over three years. He skipped the traditional Latin text and chose passages from the German Lutheran Bible instead\, creating a work he designed to comfort and console the living. José Luis Gómez conducts Brahms’ poetic setting\, A German Requiem.
