Fred Fox School of Music: Llantos 1492

Wednesday, January 30, 2019 @ 7:30 pm

$10

Scenes from Llantos 1492, the world’s first famenco opera, by Israeli guitarist and composer Adam del Monte, will be presented in a piano and guitar reduction with Shana Blake Hill, soprano; Bernardo Bermúdez & Roberto Perlas Gómez, baritones; Clara Rodríguez & José Cortés, flamenco voices; Daniel Helfgot, narrator; Mercedes Juan Musotto, piano; and Adam del Monte, guitar.

As its musical core, Llantos utilizes the rhythms and forms of flamenco–the national music of Spain–to tell a story set during the Spanish Inquisition, a story about the persistance and triumph of identity in a time of intolerance. It is the protagonists’ “Llantos,” their deep lament, that forms the emotional basis for the opera.

Presented by Fred Fox School of Music & Tucson Guitar Society
